A Rundown on the Situation
R-22 A/C refrigerant is being phased out of Pennsylvania and the entirety of the United States. Its ozone-depleting qualities have negatively affected the environment enough for the EPA to nix further production and sale of R-22. By 2020, the refrigerant will be banned from USA imports.
What That Means for You
If your air conditioner was manufactured prior to 2011, chances are it uses R-22 refrigerant. While the substance won’t be banned from use in existing air conditioning systems, eventually you may struggle to find new refrigerant for your equipment. You should focus on prolonging your air conditioner’s lifespan through frequent service, or skip ahead and upgrade to high efficiency.
R410-A is the cleaner, modern version of R-22. Chances are it will completely replace R-22 in the upcoming years; converting to a new A/C model will accelerate the transition. We recommend a high-efficiency air conditioner that will cost less to run, protect the environment, and increase your home comfort. Check out some of our high-efficiency A/C models.

Don’t Risk Sticking with R-22
Continuing to use R-22 on an annual basis will reduce your property’s air quality and increase your cooling bills. By upgrading your PA air conditioner, you’ll get all the benefits of a new system along with having a current refrigerant that is affordable and available.
